Structured Education Program

Study is flexible with the Structured Education Program.

Depending on your professional needs, the program offers you the choice of traditional classroom, and regional or distance learning for the Foundation Tax course. In addition, if you are not looking to complete a whole course, but want to sample one of the course subjects, you have the choice of enrolling in Individual Modules for the Foundation Tax course.

Leading industry practitioners and academics have collaborated in the development of the Structured Education Program. The modules have been prepared by tax industry authors and tertiary educators, and the course material is monitored and reviewed for each intake by expert practitioners in relevant fields.

+ Blended Learning

We recognise the importance of life-long learning in the professional development of busy tax professionals. Consequently, we have structured the Program to accommodate the many demands placed on your work life. In addition to the face-to-face components, the program has blended the opportunities of:

  • Out of class study materials
  • Suggestions for workplace application
  • Online learning resources
  • Peer/candidate interactions
  • Access to relevant materials online so that any late-breaking material can be provided just-in-time.

The authors of the learning resources have developed their material to ensure that candidates are able to work through the topics with the assistance of lecturers and Course Convenor and the use of case studies for analysis. The materials also aim to enable candidates to draw on assessment questions, review questions and other teaching and learning strategies, as well as current and past industry experience in tax.

+ Constant Access to Assistance

To assist candidates in understanding the technical content of the study material, Course Convenors are appointed for each course of the Structured Education Program.

+ Highest Industry Recognition

The Structured Education Program conforms with best practice professional education standards. The Taxation Institute of Australia developed the Structured Education Program in 2005. Graduates of each level are eligible to apply for continued membership. From 1 July 2006, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements must be met with the Taxation Institute of Australia. Each course provides the annual Taxation Institute of Australia CPD requirement.

Because of the dynamic nature of tax legislation, the Education, Examination and Quality Assurance Board reviews the resources to ensure the courses continue to reflect the current tax planning environment. This Board is made up of representatives of leading practitioner bodies, who have responsibility for the learning materials and resources and the assessment.

The Education Advisory Board represents employers in the tax profession by providing advice on the skills and knowledge that their practices require and the skill sets that makes a candidate an attractive employment prospect.
