Assessment components
The assessment components for Diploma of Advanced Tax combine the following:

Note: you are required to pass all assessment components to pass Advanced Tax.
*Attendance for Advanced Tax will be measured by attendance at the lectures/teleconferences and the preparation of case study solutions prior to the lectures/teleconferences. A required 80% attendance for face-to-face lectures means up to one lecture can be missed without affecting the overall mark. There is a requirement for candidates to provide a reason for their failure to attend lectures if they miss more than one.
Candidates are required to write an assignment on a case study at the completion of the case study sessions. The assignment is submitted to the supervisor for examining. A date/time during the assessment week comprises two hours for the oral presentation. The supervisor then provides a late-breaking advice relevant to the assignment at assessment time and the candidate has one hour to write on the late-breaking advice. During the next hour candidates submit findings orally to supervisor.
Assessment-only
Candidates who wish to accelerate to a credential and who have prior study, qualifications and experience may choose to progress directly to the assessment for Advanced Tax. The assignment and oral presentation has a weighting of 100 per cent with a required 70 per cent or higher to pass. A past assignment paper is issued for assessment preparation. No study materials will be provided.

Assessment dates
The assignment dates for 2012 are:
- Study Period 1, 2012: 15 August 2012
The oral presentations are scheduled during the week of:
- Study Period 1, 2012: 27-30 August 2012
If candidates are unable to submit the assignment on the allocated date for the Study Period they are enrolled, they have the option of deferring their assessment. Refer to policies for more information.
Examination venues
Oral presentations are held at the Taxation Institute local state offices - Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide for each study period. For candidates living outside these capital city regions where venues are provided can sit oral presentations at remote locations when complying with the Taxation Institute's ‘Remote Examination Procedures'. These candidates will be required to cover the costs for a suitable venue and supervision fee. Click here for more information.
Prizes
The Justice Graham Hill Scholarship is awarded to the overall National Dux for the year. This award entitles the recipient to receive complimentary registration to the following year's National Convention including travel and accommodation arrangements. A formal presentation is arranged for the opening of the National Convention before Session 1: 'The Justice Hill Memorial Lecture', where the recipient will be awarded with their certificate.
National duxes and all other graduates are asked to sign a release form to promote their name and firm to our Members and other interested candidates in our Taxation Institute publications.
